This is the most pressure-filled, stressful environment that I’ve ever seen. And I’ve been around a few years. Clearly, we’re not going to be able to sustain this intensity for too long, or we’ll melt down as individuals and as groups.
So I give you permission to take two minutes here to remember the larger things in life. You are an important person who has wishes, dreams, and goals. You have value to yourself, to your family, to your friends, and to the world as a whole. That’s important.
Yes, that job is nagging, the e-mail over in that other window, the blinking icon down at the bottom. But rest assured that it will still be there when you return from this little respite.
Now, stand up and look at things other than your computer, things outside your office. Go ahead, I’ll wait.
Just a sec…
Just a sec…
…
Was that neat? There’s a whole other Real World out there that will love to interact with you when you get off work today. Real Air to breathe. Away from the flickering computer screen and overhead artificial lights.
OK, that was your break today. I’ll let you get back to work for now, but please remember that this is what will help you to keep your energy up for all the stresses we’re dealing with!
Take care.
