Our furnace died on Saturday morning, and this was a cold, cold weekend.
But this reinforces for me how thankful we should be for what we have. Even though this is a significant unexpected expense and tremendous inconvenience, the fact is that we’ll weather this with little damage.
Meanwhile, there are WAY too many people out there who have no refuge from the cold at all.
What does this have to do with managing your career? It’s this: You probably have lots more resources and assets than you give yourself credit for:
- If you currently have a job, it’s giving you income to live off of and time to carefully work on your next transition.
- You’re thinking about and researching your career options.
- You know a great many people, especially when you include friends and family you might not normally think about in this context.
- Online resources are more plentiful and powerful than they’ve ever been – for learning, for networking, for job searching.
We often tend to focus on problems and barriers – but this just magnifies them.
Today, spend more time focusing on your assets and resources.
