{"id":7,"date":"2009-01-23T19:03:29","date_gmt":"2009-01-23T11:03:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.dierschow.com\/wordpress-2.7\/wordpress\/?p=7"},"modified":"2009-05-26T07:57:16","modified_gmt":"2009-05-25T23:57:16","slug":"integrity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/dierschow.com\/wordpress\/career\/integrity","title":{"rendered":"Integrity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>One of the key concepts that you can learn from a coach is\u00a0<strong>Integrity<\/strong>.\u00a0 Normally we think of that word in connection with honesty and upright principles.\u00a0 But it&#8217;s much more powerful than that.<\/p>\n<p>The word derives from the Latin\u00a0<em>integritatem<\/em>, meaning &#8220;soundness&#8221; or &#8220;wholeness.&#8221;\u00a0 For a person to be whole, to have integrity, means that your principles are aligned with your intentions, actions and behaviors.<\/p>\n<p>Why is this important?<\/p>\n<p>Well, when you create certain intentions, you will naturally pay attention to those people and events which are aligned with those intentions.\u00a0 If I&#8217;m worried about money, I&#8217;ll tend to see information which is relevant to whether I will have money in the future.\u00a0 If I&#8217;m worried about certain relationships, I&#8217;ll be extremely sensitive to even subtle signals regarding those people.<\/p>\n<p>But what happens if that&#8217;s misaligned with my principles?\u00a0 I get extremely frustrated and waste extreme amounts of energy.\u00a0 Let&#8217;s say that I want my principles to be that I&#8217;m open and available to help people when they need me.\u00a0 But perhaps right now I just haven&#8217;t created the energy to be there for people.\u00a0 This will come out in my behavior:\u00a0 Someone approaches me for help, I&#8217;m curt and unhelpful, and as a result they go away feeling bad about the interaction.<\/p>\n<p>What&#8217;s happened is that I don&#8217;t have integrity between my principles, intentions, actions, and behaviors.\u00a0 In this case, I didn&#8217;t get\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">any<\/span>\u00a0result that I desired, being both untrue to myself and the other person.\u00a0 They&#8217;re less likely to trust me in the future.<\/p>\n<p>So this is where a coach can be a great aid:\u00a0 To help you articulate those hard-to-describe principles and values, design intentions and goals which are consistent with them, and then to help you allocate your time, energy, and attention consistent with them.<\/p>\n<p>You end up having\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Integrity<\/span>\u00a0with yourself.\u00a0 Things flow easier, the right information comes to your intention, and people trust you because you&#8217;re consistent and grounded.<\/p>\n<p>It really is quite amazing, and I&#8217;ve seen so many great examples of people who have been able to achieve this kind of inner peace.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>One of the key concepts that you can learn from a coach is\u00a0Integrity.\u00a0 Normally we think of that word in connection with honesty and upright principles.\u00a0 But it&#8217;s much more <a href=\"http:\/\/dierschow.com\/wordpress\/career\/integrity\" class=\"more-link\">[&hellip;]<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[3],"tags":[],"class_list":{"0":"entry","1":"post","2":"publish","3":"author-carl","4":"post-7","6":"format-standard","7":"category-career"},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"http:\/\/dierschow.com\/wordpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/7","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"http:\/\/dierschow.com\/wordpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"http:\/\/dierschow.com\/wordpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/dierschow.com\/wordpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/dierschow.com\/wordpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=7"}],"version-history":[{"count":2,"href":"http:\/\/dierschow.com\/wordpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/7\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":308,"href":"http:\/\/dierschow.com\/wordpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/7\/revisions\/308"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"http:\/\/dierschow.com\/wordpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=7"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/dierschow.com\/wordpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=7"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/dierschow.com\/wordpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=7"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
