{"id":610,"date":"2010-01-08T10:16:12","date_gmt":"2010-01-08T17:16:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dierschow.com\/wordpress\/?p=610"},"modified":"2010-01-08T10:17:28","modified_gmt":"2010-01-08T17:17:28","slug":"your-authentic-self","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/dierschow.com\/wordpress\/career\/your-authentic-self","title":{"rendered":"Your Authentic Self"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/dierschow.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/PaintedFace.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-611\" title=\"PaintedFace\" src=\"http:\/\/dierschow.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/01\/PaintedFace.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"133\" height=\"94\" \/><\/a>Who are You, the real person?<\/p>\n<p>On this blog, I&#8217;ve talked a lot about career issues, but let&#8217;s face it:\u00a0 That&#8217;s only a part of who You are.\u00a0 I would hope that you recognize that there&#8217;s other important areas of your life:\u00a0 your family, spiritual growth, your physical self, contribution to important causes, your social circles &#8211; and perhaps more.<\/p>\n<p>Your Authentic Self is the person underlying all that.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Why bother trying to combine all these different aspects of your life?\u00a0 Simple:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Clarity about your Authentic Self helps you to make important life decisions<\/li>\n<li>Physically, you&#8217;re only a single person, with all your capabilities and limitations<\/li>\n<li>You have to balance all of these in 24 hours a day<\/li>\n<li>Wonderful things can happen when you remove the barriers between these areas<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Over ten years ago, I became interested in the field of coaching.\u00a0 Originally, it was because I saw it as a great career path, but as I explored it more, I found that it tied together a number of other areas of my life as well.\u00a0 The principles of coaching strongly relate to why I contribute to certain ministries in my church.\u00a0 It affects the friendships I form and business partners I work with, even how I relate to my family.\u00a0 Not that I coach family members, but that the <em>mindset of coaching<\/em> contains some imp0rtant components of my personal principles.<\/p>\n<p>One result of this is that I don&#8217;t have clear lines of demarcation between my &#8220;work self,&#8221; my &#8220;family self,&#8221; and my &#8220;social self.&#8221;\u00a0 It&#8217;s not necessary to adopt radically different personalities, because I&#8217;m more confident of my deeper Authentic Self and True Purpose.<\/p>\n<p>You can discover your Authentic Self by asking some simple questions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What have you done which gives you the deepest satisfaction (not just surface pleasure)?<\/li>\n<li>Where do you enjoy doing hard work, just because you believe it&#8217;s worth it?<\/li>\n<li>How are you similar in different aspects of your life?<\/li>\n<li>Where do other people value you, even seek you out?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Your Authentic Self is something that&#8217;s very unique to you, so you may find it surprisingly hard to find appropriate words to describe it.\u00a0 Don&#8217;t worry &#8211; if it&#8217;s valuable to you, you&#8217;ll pursue it until the concepts become clearer.<\/p>\n<p>What do you do with knowing your Authentic Self?\u00a0 Well, you use it to build your energy and make life decisions.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What are you doing to grow toward your Authentic Self?<\/li>\n<li>How does your Authentic Self show up in your job, with your family and friends, and how you spend your discretionary time?<\/li>\n<li>How will you know if you&#8217;re making progress?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Believe me, this can be one of the most important things for you to figure out in your entire life.\u00a0 Really.<\/p>\n<p><input id=\"gwProxy\" type=\"hidden\" \/> <input id=\"jsProxy\" onclick=\"jsCall();\" type=\"hidden\" \/><\/p>\n<p><input id=\"gwProxy\" type=\"hidden\" \/><\/p>\n<p><!--Session data--><input id=\"jsProxy\" onclick=\"jsCall();\" type=\"hidden\" \/><\/p>\n<p><input id=\"gwProxy\" type=\"hidden\" \/><input id=\"jsProxy\" onclick=\"jsCall();\" type=\"hidden\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Who are You, the real person?
