{"id":485,"date":"2009-07-17T08:27:55","date_gmt":"2009-07-17T15:27:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dierschow.com\/wordpress\/?p=485"},"modified":"2009-07-17T08:27:55","modified_gmt":"2009-07-17T15:27:55","slug":"your-job-is-to-find-a-job","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/dierschow.com\/wordpress\/career\/your-job-is-to-find-a-job","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Your job is to find a job&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;Your job now is to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">find<\/span> a job.&#8221;\u00a0 As a career coach, I&#8217;ve talked with my clients many times about the concept.\u00a0 But it&#8217;s a much more challenging phrase than I ever knew!\u00a0 The implications are enormous, and that&#8217;s what I&#8217;ve been spending so much energy on this week.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->When you&#8217;re new to a job, what&#8217;s the first things you focus on?\u00a0 Well, first, you&#8217;ll sit down with your new boss and others who will help provide direction, and ask them questions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What are the tasks I&#8217;m responsible for?<\/li>\n<li>Who do I need to talk to?<\/li>\n<li>What sources of information do I need to connect with?<\/li>\n<li>How will my success be measured, both short term and long term?<\/li>\n<li>Any instructions, even tips, on how I <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">do<\/span> my job?<\/li>\n<li>What other stakeholders\/customers will need the value I&#8217;m delivering?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Whenever I&#8217;ve started a new job, it takes me awhile to get this organized so I can start feeling productive.\u00a0 Since I&#8217;ve done so many jobs in the last decade which are loosely defined, many times it&#8217;s also a matter of creating my best guess at the answers to these questions, and then testing with various stakeholders &#8211;
