{"id":430,"date":"2009-06-19T08:32:53","date_gmt":"2009-06-19T15:32:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dierschow.com\/wordpress\/?p=430"},"modified":"2009-06-19T15:44:15","modified_gmt":"2009-06-19T22:44:15","slug":"the-entracte","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/dierschow.com\/wordpress\/career\/the-entracte","title":{"rendered":"The Entr&#8217;Acte"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My friend Yee Sing reminded me to add another update on how the career-change journey is going.\u00a0 It&#8217;s been a strange week &#8211; a lot going on, but little going on.\u00a0 Let me explain.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->My hunt for jobs inside HP has basically run its course.\u00a0 Yes, I check the job board every morning.\u00a0 I even applied for a couple of HR-type jobs the other day.\u00a0 But there&#8217;s only one job that I really have any chance of getting, and it&#8217;s not likely to come to the short-list state for another week yet.\u00a0 As a result, the ability to spend time focusing on my future in HP has gradually declined.<\/p>\n<p>I also gave a presentation to some HP leaders on Wednesday, thus completing the last of the formal commitments I&#8217;d made.\u00a0 It went very well, but it&#8217;s sad to realize that it&#8217;s probably the last one I&#8217;ll be able to give.<\/p>\n<p>If I do land that position I mentioned, it will be rather strange to RE-engage.\u00a0 Not a concern, really, but just something much different than any experience I&#8217;ve ever had before.<\/p>\n<p>So my time this week has started to shift to my future career outside the company.\u00a0 But because I&#8217;m going to that Colloquium next week, it doesn&#8217;t feel like I can start any BIG efforts.\u00a0 I also think that my time away for the next three weeks will help me to clear my head.\u00a0 When I get back, my full intention is to work on three things:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The final separation activities &#8211; health insurance, stock options, and so on.<\/li>\n<li>Contacting companies that are in the business of delivering coaching services, to see if they&#8217;d hire me as a coach.<\/li>\n<li>Defining my new coaching+consulting business, and learning from others who have successfully done that.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When I played in the orchestra for musicals in High School, I learned that there&#8217;s a piece of music which is played after the intermission, to start the second act &#8211; it&#8217;s called the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Entr%27acte\" target=\"_blank\">Entr&#8217;Acte<\/a>.\u00a0 That&#8217;s where I feel that I am right now in my career &#8211; closing the first act, and getting ready for the second.\u00a0 But since the second act hasn&#8217;t really started yet, it feels more like a preparation stage &#8211; a leaning-toward.<\/p>\n<p>But since I continue to get so much support from friends around the world (thanks, Yee Sing!) it&#8217;s not a terrifying experience.\u00a0 Just a leap into the unknown.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My friend Yee Sing reminded me to add another update on how the career-change journey is going.\u00a0 It&#8217;s been a strange week &#8211; a lot going on, but little going <a href=\"http:\/\/dierschow.com\/wordpress\/career\/the-entracte\" class=\"more-link\">[&hellip;]<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[3],"tags":[15,6,7,20],"class_list":{"0":"entry","1":"post","2":"publish","3":"author-carl","4":"has-more-link","5":"post-430","7":"format-standard","8":"category-career","9":"post_tag-career-coaching","10":"post_tag-coaching","11":"post_tag-job-change","12":"post_tag-job-loss"},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"http:\/\/dierschow.com\/wordpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/430","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"http:\/\/dierschow.com\/wordpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"http:\/\/dierschow.com\/wordpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/dierschow.com\/wordpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/dierschow.com\/wordpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=430"}],"version-history":[{"count":2,"href":"http:\/\/dierschow.com\/wordpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/430\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":432,"href":"http:\/\/dierschow.com\/wordpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/430\/revisions\/432"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"http:\/\/dierschow.com\/wordpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=430"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/dierschow.com\/wordpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=430"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/dierschow.com\/wordpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=430"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
