{"id":1617,"date":"2014-01-06T08:58:05","date_gmt":"2014-01-06T15:58:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dierschow.com\/wordpress\/?p=1617"},"modified":"2014-01-06T08:58:05","modified_gmt":"2014-01-06T15:58:05","slug":"being-thankful","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/dierschow.com\/wordpress\/career\/being-thankful","title":{"rendered":"Being thankful"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Our furnace died on Saturday morning, and this was a cold, cold weekend.<\/p>\n<p>But this reinforces for me how thankful we should be for what we have.\u00a0 Even though this is a significant unexpected expense and tremendous inconvenience, the fact is that we&#8217;ll weather this with little damage.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Meanwhile, there are WAY too many people out there who have no refuge from the cold at all.<\/p>\n<p>What does this have to do with managing your career?\u00a0 It&#8217;s this:\u00a0 You probably have lots more resources and assets than you give yourself credit for:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If you currently have a job, it&#8217;s giving you income to live off of and time to carefully work on your next transition.<\/li>\n<li>You&#8217;re thinking about and researching your career options.<\/li>\n<li>You know a great many people, especially when you include friends and family you might not normally think about in this context.<\/li>\n<li>Online resources are more plentiful and powerful than they&#8217;ve ever been &#8211; for learning, for networking, for job searching.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We often tend to focus on problems and barriers &#8211; but this just magnifies them.<\/p>\n<p>Today, spend more time focusing on your assets and resources.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Our furnace died on Saturday morning, and this was a cold, cold weekend.
