{"id":1532,"date":"2013-03-18T10:42:18","date_gmt":"2013-03-18T17:42:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dierschow.com\/wordpress\/?p=1532"},"modified":"2013-03-18T10:42:18","modified_gmt":"2013-03-18T17:42:18","slug":"surviving-a-bad-employer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/dierschow.com\/wordpress\/career\/surviving-a-bad-employer","title":{"rendered":"Surviving a bad employer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-1533\" alt=\"Devil\" src=\"http:\/\/dierschow.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Devil-183x300.jpg\" width=\"183\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/dierschow.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Devil-183x300.jpg 183w, http:\/\/dierschow.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/Devil.jpg 315w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 183px) 100vw, 183px\" \/>Are your values out of sync with where you work?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve talked with a great number of people who feel trapped in an organization which has values different than what they feel comfortable with.\u00a0 Typically these employees view the company as unfair, unfeeling, even unethical.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re in this situation, how do you deal with it?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->The most obvious advice would be to just look for a job at employers which are better suited to your needs.\u00a0 But that may take quite awhile, so what do you do in the meantime?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>First<\/strong>, work to understand the reality of the situation.\u00a0 I often find that employees&#8217; views of their employer is woefully uninformed, limited mostly to the experience they have with their boss and direct work team.\u00a0 Feedback is based on what they receive as a paycheck and any rewards or recognition.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Realize that this can be an awfully limited view of what the company&#8217;s about.\u00a0 You can find out more by talking with other managers, even company executives, and researching higher level resources within the company.
