{"id":1179,"date":"2011-06-13T08:21:06","date_gmt":"2011-06-13T15:21:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dierschow.com\/wordpress\/?p=1179"},"modified":"2012-06-01T14:49:48","modified_gmt":"2012-06-01T21:49:48","slug":"the-small-voice","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/dierschow.com\/wordpress\/career\/the-small-voice","title":{"rendered":"The small voice"},"content":{"rendered":"<table cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"4\" align=\"center\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td colspan=\"2\">\nIf you think about it, our culture is very loud and brash &#8211; especially  \t\tthe American society.\u00a0 But it&#8217;s generally true worldwide that  \t\tpeople are struggling to figure out what&#8217;s important from the noise in  \t\ttheir lives.<\/p>\n<p>For me, TV and e-mail are the worst addictions.\u00a0 <!--more-->Always feeding me  \t\tmarginally relevant stuff, every minute of the day.\u00a0 I&#8217;m  \t\tover-stimulated.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the problem:\u00a0 What&#8217;s truly important is small and quiet.\u00a0  \t\tA recent example was when my wife&#8217;s voice quivered just a little the  \t\tother day.<\/p>\n<p>That little event, a fraction of a second, was an incredibly important  \t\toccurrence.\u00a0 Something had deep meaning to her, and I could either  \t\tchoose to ignore it (which I&#8217;ve been known to do when I&#8217;m not paying  \t\tattention) or to find out more about what&#8217;s happening for her.\u00a0  \t\tFortunately I chose the latter.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s another example:\u00a0 I&#8217;m struggling to become comfortable with  \t\tthe idea of being the primary salesman for my coaching services.\u00a0 I  \t\tcan give elevator pitches and presentations, sure, but there&#8217;s more to  \t\tsales than that.\u00a0 When I&#8217;m sitting here pounding away on my  \t\tkeyboard, it&#8217;s easy to forget that my REAL value is getting out there  \t\tand selling my services.<\/p>\n<p>But this insight doesn&#8217;t come in a flash of lightning.\u00a0 It comes as  \t\ta small voice when I&#8217;m just sitting there thinking.\u00a0 Or, even more  \t\tlikely, when I first awake in the morning.<\/p>\n<p>You have to listen to that small voice.\u00a0 It&#8217;s important, so listen  \t\tand have a conversation with it.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s what thinking really is about, not just reacting to the next  \t\tstimulus that FaceBook throws your way.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td colspan=\"2\">Carl Dierschow is a Certified  \t\t<a href=\"http:\/\/www.smallfish.us\/\" target=\"_blank\">Small Fish Business Coach<\/a> and  \t\tauthor of the career management guide, <em>Mondays Stink! 23 Secrets to  \t\tRediscover Delight and Fulfillment in Your Work<\/em>.
